There are elastic slots on the divider inside and if you do stick pens/pencils in them, you lose a ton of storage space so they are kind of redundant. But I have a ton of junk in my little pouch which is nice to have it all stored in 1 place in my backpack! Plus the Kalea pattern is SUPER cute!
